Paper formats

A paper format is the stationery. It is not a set of questions, and it is not a generation preset.

Exam Paper Formats in the sidebar. You can build a format for a department, or upload an existing institution paper so ZeroExam can read its page size, margins, header, student fields, and footer.

A format can include:

  • Institution name, department, and address lines
  • A logo, and where it sits
  • Page size: A4, Letter, or Legal
  • Orientation and margins
  • A watermark
  • Footer lines and whether page numbers print

Mark one format as the workspace default. An exam with no format of its own uses that default.

Open PDF & Print Settings. The Paper format row shows the format that will be used, or Default format — no template if none is selected. Pick another format from the list on that sheet. The choice is saved on the exam.

The downloaded PDF is typeset with that format: real text, the header you defined, and the margins you set, including Legal when that is the page size. Print is still the browser’s print dialog, not that PDF. It follows the format’s orientation and margins, but a Legal format is printed as A4.

Changing the format does not regenerate questions.
