Sharing and export

A finished exam leaves ZeroExam as a file, or as a link that opens without an account.

On the exam, choose Share. The dialog creates a link shaped like /take/<token> on the teacher app. Copy that link. An older link that used the exam’s own id, or that put a password in the query string, will not work. Settings live on the link, not in the URL, so a student cannot flip answers on by editing the address.

ControlWhat it does
OpensQuestions and submission stay blocked until this time. The page shows a countdown
ClosesAfter this time the link stops accepting work
Require passwordThe student must enter the password you set before questions load. A wrong password is refused. Too many wrong tries lock the link for a while
Show answer key to studentsAfter submission, the result can include correct answers. Before submission, answers are stripped

The link serves approved questions only. Share refuses to create a link when nothing is approved. The dialog includes an Include draft questions switch and a warning that drafts can be included. Copying the link does not send that choice, and opening the dialog sets it back to off. Approve the paper. Do not rely on the switch.

Checking a class in Assign to groups does not limit who can open the link. Anyone with the URL can open it. The checkboxes label your own confirmation; they do not email the class and they do not restrict the token. To put students on a roster, use Classes and students.

There is no 6-character access code. The link is the access. A password, if you set one, is a password you choose.

Archiving an exam turns sharing off.

The dialog does not currently show a submission cap. If a cap was set another way, the link stops accepting new submissions once that many have been recorded. Opening the page does not count as a use. A successful submission does.

Before submission, the questions response omits answer keys and correct-choice flags. Multiple-choice, true/false, and fill-in-the-blank answers are scored when they submit. Written answers stay pending until you check them. View Results on the exam is where those submissions land.

If you enabled the answer key, answers can appear in the result after submission. They are not on the question page before that.

The student flow is described in Taking an exam.

ActionWhat you get
PDF on the examA typeset PDF of the question paper. Text is real text, including Arabic, Urdu, Devanagari, and CJK when the paper uses them
PrintThe browser print dialog, not the PDF file. Orientation and margins follow the format. A Legal format prints as A4
PDF & Print Settings → Export PDFSame server PDF, with the format and answer-key choice applied
Download DOCXA Word file of the paper

Include answer key appends a marking sheet to that download. It is for you. Students do not receive the file. The switch applies to both PDF and DOCX. Do not forward an answer-key download to the class.

Each export counts against the plan’s export allowance for the period. PDF and DOCX are counted separately.

The paper’s header, logo, and margins come from the selected paper format, or from the workspace default if you have not picked one.

  • The PDF opens and the text is selectable in the exam’s language
  • A private window can open the share link without signing in
  • Correct answers are absent before submission
  • A password-protected link asks for the password and refuses a wrong one
  • An expired link is refused
  • An answer-key PDF is not the file you send to students
